Functional Endurance Assessment
Hi , welcome to The Functional Endurance Assessment, watch the About ‘How To’ video below. This assessment can be completed as often as you desire.
However, we recommend completing every 4-6 weeks.
NOTE: If you have known gait/walking posture issues, and if you haven’t already, consider our STRONG A.D.L. Movements program where we unpack Gait along with 11 other functional ‘Active Daily Life’ movements.
So, why an endurance assessment? Because it’s great to know how well your heart and lungs are progressing as you become fitter and stronger. This is a key indicator of ‘Healthy Life Expectation’ as we age.
Hey, this is NOT a time trial where at the end you are completely exhausted having spent all.
Map out a walking circuit over approximately one and a half kilometres or one mile, where you’ll record the time it takes to complete it from start to finish. You can make this route shorter or longer, but it helps you take the same route so you can track your progress.
The score is the time it takes, with the intent and the next time you see improvement with it being quicker.
There is NO equipment needed… Other than a watch/stopwatch.
HOWEVER, you may find that you have plateaued and the times are much the same. Then, consider weighting yourself down with a backpack filled with bottled water (say 4-8kbs) or holding some 0.5-2kg dumbbells, or some ankle weights, to mix it up.
